Durham is rich in culture and history, with plenty of things to do year-round. This summer, unwind, unplug, and take advantage of all Durham has to offer. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Catch a Durham Bulls Game. The Durham Bulls may be a minor league team, but their games provide major excitement. Snack on some refreshments (check the calendar to find out when $1 concession day is), enjoy family friendly activities, and maybe even get a picture with Wool E. Bull! With numerous themed nights throughout the season, there’s always something for the whole family at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Cool down with a bubbly cider from Bull City Cider Works. Just walking distance from the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, this local cidery is known for its flagship hard apple cider, and for its more wacky flavors like strawberry habanero. Sit out on the patio, share a flight with someone you love, and enjoy a warm summer night.

Get your nature fix at Eno River State Park. Consisting of 4,900 acres of land, Eno River is just 10 miles from Downtown Durham. Kayak or canoe down the 33 miles of river, cast your line to catch some bass, make a picnic lunch, or spend the night at one of the wooded campsites. You’ll really feel like you’re lost in the woods, all while just a short drive away from Durham.

Stroll around the American Tobacco Campus. The American Tobacco Campus is a national historic district, surrounded by the original buildings that formerly housed tobacco factories. Repurposed as a shopping and dining district, this quaint area is a great place for date night or to walk around with the family on a summer afternoon.

Attend a show at DPAC. Durham Performing Arts Center—DPAC—is in the heart of downtown Durham. Distinguished by its modern and contemporary design, DPAC has 2,700 seats and a first-rate sound system. From stand-up comedians to the hottest broadway shows, DPAC offers it all. (And you finally won’t have to lie about having seen Hamilton anymore!)

Stop and Smell the Roses at Duke Gardens. Ranked as one of the top 10 public gardens in the country, Duke Gardens is a 55-acre public botanical garden. Open every day of the year, the garden houses rose gardens, fish ponds, a butterfly garden, a learning center, and more. Spend the afternoon surrounded by the colors and fragrances flora. While you’re here, also explore Duke’s renowned campus.

Whether you choose to have an action-packed summer filled with adventures, or a slow, relaxing summer to take it easy, you can find what you’re looking for in Durham.
